Smoke alarms

Do not disconnect or remove your smoke alarm!

• FACT:  you are more than twice as likely to die in a fire at home if you do not have a working smoke alarm fitted.
  
  
• FACT:  faulty electrics cause around 7,000 house fires across the country every year.
  
  
• FACT:  18 people die each year because the battery in their smoke alarm was flat or missing.

Smoke alarms fitted when a property is rewired should not be disconnected or removed.

If you dispose of the smoke alarm, you will be charged to have it replaced.

Test your smoke alarm regularly, and if you find that it is faulty, please contact the Repairs section by:

• Telling your Area Maintenance Surveyor or Housing Officer
