Resident monitors
Get involved in your area
What are resident monitors?
These are tenants, leaseholders, and
in some cases owner occupiers, who have volunteered to monitor the
quality of the cleaning and the estate services that are delivered
by our contractors, in the area where they live.
Some resident monitors carry out
regular checks on the standard of the weekly cleaning inside the
blocks of flats. Others monitor the standard of grass cutting,
gardening, and the appearance of council-owned estates.
Resident monitors carry out the
valuable role of helping to scrutinise the quality of the services
delivered, and thus ultimately help to improve those services.
How often would I need to do it?
Resident monitors can inspect at the
frequency most convenient to them, and also the area size most
convenient to them. They only do what they feel comfortable
with.
Do resident monitors receive
training?
Yes.
- If you volunteer to become a cleaning monitor, you will be
trained by Mears, who are contracted to carry out the cleaning of
the communal areas in all council-owned blocks of flats.
- If you volunteer to become an estate monitor, you will receive
training from a member of our Housing staff.
Both training sessions are short and
informal. If you are really keen, you can volunteer for both!
Would I get paid?
No - this is a voluntary activity.
What are the benefits of getting
involved?
Our aim is to increase the number of
people monitoring the contractor's performance. This will ensure
that they deliver the services that they are paid to do and will
give that resident better value for money.
